Label Of The Week – Shall Not Fade

Hailing from Bristol, Shall Not Fade is an up and coming label producing floor-filling, vinyl-only releases. The label began with an early release by Mall Grab, the smooth 2015 ‘Happiness EP’, which consists of a four track album highlighting the Australian’s signature sound – deep, soulful grooves accompanied by overpowering four-to-the-floor beats. The B-side however, Alone, is the stand out track on the plate, gracefully building throughout, swaying slowly between half-time techno beats and rolling kick drums.

Throughout 2016, the label clocked up numerous releases from the likes of LK, Steven Be Calm, Lake Haze and notably Contours (along with Ross From Friends) – whose work on the Loose Wood EP was a standout record. With intricate percussion sampling, especially present on ‘Quarkabeb’ with the variation of cymbal timbres and clear jazz influence melodically, the whole EP makes for an interesting and diverse listen.

With the label hosting a 1st birthday night, back in their hometown of Bristol, having already produced 6 records and two sub-labels – and with many more releases in the works for 2017 – Shall Not Fade are the new kids on the block that are definitely worth keeping an eye on.
